12.000 m2 WiikHalls installed in Indonesia

After the tsunami, which hit Indonesia December 26th 2004, emergency preparedness and storage of relief material became an issue for the local Red Cross committee PMI.

Among others Norwegian Red Cross became an important partner for PMI, and as part of the emergency preparedness it was decided to install 4 permanent warehouses (WiikHalls) from O. B. Wiik on 4 different locations in Indonesia.

The firstWiikHall warehouse in size 30x65 meter was installed in Banda Aceh. Than followed another WiikHall in size 40 x 100 meter in Surabaya and one more in size 30 x 65 meter in Subang. WiikHall number 4 – in size 40x100 meter- was installed in Banten just outside Jakarta, and was completed end March 2011.
Not only were the warehouses supplied by O. B. Wiik. Each of the buildings was also protected with steel sheets on the walls, cyclone ventilators and lighting products from our company. The 4 concrete slabs were calculated and designed by our engineers.

PMI has now an integrated disaster contingency plan, and has filled up the 4 stockpiles with material needed for an emergency.
